Siberian State Medical University trains the next generation of doctors by performing high quality medical research and by offering excellent education.

Established in 1878, Siberian State Medical University is one of the most well-known and highly reputable medical schools in Russia owing to its top caliber academic and scientific body, and experienced physicians whose names are world-renowned.

The University aims at improving the quality of life and health of the population through innovation in education, research and patient care offering top-quality training, educational and research opportunities to the students.

Annually SSMU provides education to over 5 000 students from all parts of Russia and CIS region as well as many foreign countries (Germany, Haiti, Latvia, Lithuania, Cyprus, Nigeria, Malaysia, India, Mongolia). The University can boast of over 80% academic faculty with academic degrees (375 MDs, DMedSci). Over 60 000 doctors and pharmacists have graduated from the University over the years; over 40 000 specialists have been certified.

Campus

The Siberian State Medical University campus includes 10 SSMU buildings located in the center of the city, academic departments in Tomsk leading medical centers/hospitals, SSMU hospital, 5 dormitories for 2,360 students, a sports and fitness complex, and a recreational center in the softwood forest on the bank of the river Ob.

City

Tomsk is a city and the administrative center of Tomsk Oblast, Russia, located on the Tom River. One of the oldest towns in Siberia, Tomsk celebrated its 400th anniversary in 2004.Tomsk has grown and evolved over four centuries. Surprisingly, this settlement was intended for prisoners and service people, but in a short period became more significant than many other domestic cities. In 1991 Tomsk was awarded the status of a historical city, as the city kept good condition preserved unique historical buildings, landscapes, etc. In honor of the city named an asteroid (4931) and nuclear submarine boat K-150 "Tomsk", which is a part of the Russian Pacific fleet.
