ABOUT UNIVERSITY
University
The University of Nizhny Novgorod sees its mission as maintaining and strengthening the role of UNN as one of the leading institutes of Russian higher education. UNN is featured in TOP 80 in the BRICS Emerging Economies World Rankings.
UNN is one of the biggest universities in Russia. It was established in 1916. It has a close collaboration with the Nizhny Novgorod Scientific Centre of Russian Academy of Sciences (NNSC RAS). State University is a member of the European University Association (EUA).
It has 30 000 students from 97 countries who study at 19 Faculties and Institutes. In 2014 UNN installed a powerful supercomputer named Lobachevsky at the Research Institute for Applied Mathematics and Cybernatics. The peak performance of Lobachevsky is 570 Tflops: this makes it the third most powerful supercomputer in Russia and one of the most powerful supercomputers in the world.
Campus
The big advantage of Lobachevsky State University of Nizhny Nogrorod is that it has its own infrastructure. Most faculties, administrative buildings, research institutes, sports facilities, dormitories and the main building of UNN Fundamental Library are situated on campus.
City
Nizhny Novgorod is one of the oldest cities in Russia with very rich history. It was established at the confluence of two Russian great rivers, the Volga and the Oka, by Prince Yuri Vsevolodovich in 1221 as a stronghold to defend Russian border. Nizhny Novgorod was a capital city of the Nizhny Novgorod-Suzdal principality, one of the stronges
Russia during the period of feudal fragmentation in the Middle Ages. UNESCO included Nizhny Novgorod in the list of 100 cities in the world which are of great historic and cultural value.
UNN International
UNN is a community that welcomes all cultures and makes its education accessible to all gifted people from all over the world. Citizens of over 70 nations have found a home from home and suitable training programmes at UNN. World renowned scientists and prominent researchers collaborate with and regularly visit the university to teach students. UNN supports researchers’ initiatives and knowledge transfer projects.
